As I get into my senior years, 70+, I realize all my past dreams really didn’t matter as much as they did in my TEENS’s, 20’s and 30’s.
Just making it through all those years with the lifestyle that I lead was a true dream/miracle that came true and finding the love of my soul in my beautiful wife of 37 years has made EVERYTHING RIGHT!
Michael, I absolutely adore and love your beautiful words about your wife... and I share the same sentiments. It's really funny, but all the stuff that I thought would 'make me happy' are not the things that really matter all that much. This past weekend I spent time with my husband at our home relaxing with our cats... and it really felt like a dream come true. It's funny how life shows you that you've had what you wanted all along. :) Thank YOU so much for reading!
Thanks Barb, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! This exercise is a very simple one -- but the broader lesson that can be applied to the rest of our life can have pretty tremendous (and wonderful!) effects!
You are such an amazing inspiration to others. I’m so blessed & grateful that my Bucket List is being checked off so abundantly throughout the second half of my life. God is so graceful & loving and my relationship with him & the Universe now is so open hearted. Change your Fears into Faith.
A song for you that helped me get through one of the toughest times of my life. As soon as I saw the title of your post I started singing this song. May it brighten your day!
Your first paragraph reminded me of kindergarten. When the fire fighters came to our classroom to do a fire safety demo, it left me feeling like we would all experience a fire at some point in our childhood homes. Even at six years old, I could detect that it felt very “prepare for and expect the worst.”
It's funny that we both have a very vivid memory about fires... I was forced to watch a TERRIFYING safety video as a kid about what it was like to be in a fire and it got so 'into my head' that I had a hard time sleeping for around 2 decades of my life... the instances of me preparing and expecting the worst played out in my life in so many ways -- it's hard for me to comprehend it.
I can't wait to listen to that episode! Thank you so much for sharing!
So for my homework I chose to focus on a mushroom and acorn. And I've already seen three references to mushrooms - two of them in an email for food (e.g. pasta with wild mushroom sauce) and the other being a photo of a mushroom print fabric. I'm wondering if I chose something too ubiquitous??
Nope!! You're doing it!! If you feel a little bit of delight and satisfaction when you spot it... you'll know. For my 'homework' -- I decided to choose ALL of the items that I listed randomly in the post... I will have some fun results to report on Sunday! I'm so excited that you are having fun with this and seeing the evidence almost immediately -- it's such an enjoyable exercise!
I gasped (and then laughed) with this one: 'fungi' was the answer to a puzzle today! (don't worry, it's not a popular one on NYT so I'm not giving any answers away)
HAHAH! I love it so much -- it never gets old, right?! I've never seen so many octopus references in my life either - HAHA! Wait until you see the photos I took from this past weekend - blows my mind!
Wow! On Tuesday, National Geographic published this video and it just showed up in my feed today… I’ve never had so much fun watching a mycologist in action!
....and just spotted another mushroom reference in a video! This one made me smirk. Good luck with yours! Bonus points if you find the octopus and pineapple in the same place.

This is so great! I love it. Such a good look at how we manifest our realities.

In other news, your peace sign story made me think of a podcast episode about coincidences… but I can’t remember if it’s Hidden Brain (https://www.npr.org/2017/05/08/527442620/magic-or-math-the-appeal-of-coincidences-and-the-reality) or This American Life (https://www.thisamericanlife.org/489/no-coincidence-no-story)… maybe both??
