I absolutely loved the poem and its curiosity about the pizza you were preparing. It reminded me of the first of 5 Contemplations that Thich Naht Hahn uses before eating, “ This food is the gift of the whole universe: the earth, the sky, the universe, numerous living beings, and much hard, loving work.” Really good AMA and thanks for including the link for Becka’s climb.
Love the pizza poem! Similar to the amazing "gift of the universe" quote Kathleen shared, a phrase we use in Japan at the beginning of every meal, "Itadakimasu", captures the same sentiment of gratitude. It literally means "I humbly receive" and is an expression to thank everyone and everything that made it possible for that particular meal and nourishment to arrive before you. It made me think of a million other things around me having beautiful stories behind them.
This is so beautiful Chizuko! I'm going to have the get the correct pronunciation of that word. I grew up saying a short 'Grace' before meals, but, to be honest, I always felt like I was just going through the motions with it. It feels different to me now! Thank you so much for sharing -- so many things are so special when you look at them more deeply.
