One time we had camp neighbors arrive pretty late. We put off going to sleep a bit knowing they'd need to set up. Stuff happens, we'd just enjoy the fire a bit longer. Only, they set up a full DJ table with party lights and everything! To add to the weirdness, it was just two people. The ranger shut them down fast and they were evicted. We couldn't understand the logic of spending all that time packing, driving and setting up just to get kicked out. This wasn't even one of the popular modern campground that tend to be boisterous. Quiet, remote and semi-rustic. 🤷‍♀️

Isn't that nuts?! We had stuff like that happen all the time. Once, I had warned a group of campers that quiet hours started at 10pm. I walked away from the campsite and immediately the entire group started mocking me and screaming (loudly), 'WE'RE GONNA PARRRRTTTTYYYYYYY." Needless to say, they were gone within 30 minutes and the entire campground applauded when they left lol!! HA!

Hi Anastasia! Just wondering if there is another trail register on the horizon? Thanks for giving me something to look forward to in the Kula Diaries!

I like coffee husk tea too! My mom visited Nicaragua and there was a chocolate museum / cafe that sold it, she sent some to me. I steeped it in my coffee and it was homey as a home cooked soup. On its own it’s perfectly good too. I miss it! Actually I made a Nicaraguan drink for Christmas, bought cacao beans, ground and then used a fan to winnow them for the nibs, it was fun! I forgot I meant to do that again at some point to get myself some husks for tea.

Oh, coffee husk tea! I've never heard of that -- what does it taste like? I'm going to have to check that out, I'm always up for new teas!

I’ve been meaning to write and ask if you could possibly start making some “quotable kulas” for quite a long time now, but I’ve been so busy and I kept putting it off. But talk about serendipity, the art and the quotes you used on them is just what I had I mind! I have two kulas (galaxy prints) that I’ve been using daily for years now (I think I bought them in 2019, maybe? and started using them daily in 2020 with the tp shortages) and they are still going strong and I don’t NEED anymore. But I peruse the site from time to time to see what’s new and while all the artwork is beautiful, nothing grabs me by the throat and says “buy me!” And I thought if there were quotes and paintings like the ones you used on your artwork, that I would buy those in a New York minute. And voila, there they are! Please, please, please make them into kulas for sale! I’ll probably hang them on my bathroom wall when not in use, for display, I love them so much!!!

And I’m soooo glad you didn’t get eaten or mauled by the mountain lion a few weeks ago! Your attacking owl turned out to be guardian angel, or guardian owl, if you prefer. Isn’t it great how things we sometimes think are unfortunate, turn out to be very fortunate, indeed?

Hi Marlene,

I LOVE the idea of the quotable Kula! I've been doing these small paintings in 5x7 size, which won't translate to a Kula Cloth, BUT I could definitely get some larger paper and do something similar that would be printable on a Kula. So, stay tuned, I will make it happen for you!

And secondly, thank YOU for the kind words about the owl and the cougar -- I agree with you! Things are not always as they seem, and sometimes it's much better to let things unfold and trust they will work out.

Sending you love, friend -- thanks for being here!

I have also started my own routine (a few weeks ago) with a chocolatey-drink (I shifted away from nightly yogurt + blueberries + granola during soft food diet).

I would like to hear (in future posts?) if you have any fun rafting stories - or whether this is your first time?

“Noticing the glimmers” - I love that!

Oh, I'd love to hear about your chocolately drink routine too! I've been drinking a scoop of chocolate protein/'superfood' powder every morning before my walk recently. In the past, I wouldn't eat anything, but I realized that it was hurting my energy levels quite a bit.

This is not my first rafting trip -- I've done two other whitewater rafting trips (both with Kula) on the Wenatchee River, but this Salmon Canyons trip will be my first overnight rafting trip. I *love* the rafting, it's exhilarating and fun and challenging, so this will decidedly be an adventurous experience. Luckily, there are also guides who know what they are doing lol!

The glimmers are everywhere when we look for them, I love it too. Sending you a big hug, friend!

My chocolate drink has evolved over time! In the autumn I was drinking a half packet of LMNT hot chocolate at night (one whole pack in a mug was too salty!) to see if that helped with dysautonomia symptoms overnight… then I ordered the LMNT chocolate caramel without knowing what it tasted like - and it’s a bit too sweet (even just half a packet). So I’ve tried camouflaging it… and the drink I came up with is 1 tbsp of the chocolate protein powder my physiotherapist asked me to try (https://freesoul.com/products/vegan-protein-shake) with a half packet of the LMNT chocolate caramel - all mixed in some hot water and a bit of almond milk. So far so good!

I’ve only been rafting once, when I was a kid. And my dad decided it would be better if I didn’t wear my glasses (so they wouldn’t get lost)… it was possibly even more exhilarating because I couldn’t see clearly what was ahead!

Sending an octopus your way!

Hi Maria! I am a fan of LMNT too! I received several of the chocolate packets included in samples. I decided to mix them all together in a little jar and add small amounts to my coffee. It's yummy!
