Reading this a week later - I hope your back is feeling better! It is always amazing how clear things can seem once you are forced to slow down your pacing. <3
How awesome that you are staying positive during this trial! But a couple of thoughts for you. I found an infrared back belt on Amazon as I searched for electric heating pads. It's mostly neoprene, like a mouse pad, but has little heat pods in a pattern for the lower back. Very comforting to my back; doesn't use much power. Next, gotta tell this to someone who will enjoy it. We used to have an old dog kennel made of framed wire panels. The top was also a solid panel. There was an ancient iron frying pan resting upside down on that top panel. When it came time to move, I went to remove things from this kennel, and picked up the frying pan. Two sets of very tiny eyes gazed back at me in surprise: two baby hummingbirds, right at my eye level!! I had lifted the pan straight up, so they weren't touched and the nest was still fine; but they were clearly unused to being in bright light! I could see the spiderwebs that held the tiny twigs together, and the entry through the wide wire openings where their Mama came and went. After I caught my breath, I gently recovered the nest with the old pan. As the next week went by, I could see Mama flying easily through the wires, and hear tiny, tiny cheeps. Eventually the nest was abandoned, and I have always enjoyed thinking of that moment and the two babies who flew on to their adult future. One more thing: our old dog Ozzy weighs about 105 pounds. In preparation for his advancing age, I got a dog stretcher (think nylon/fleece square pad with reinforcement straps, and handles) for full carrying use, just in case, and a special smaller sling/ pad that goes under his belly and makes it MUCH easier to help him safely in and out of the car. We're 70 plus now, and it's just vital to prepare! Take care!
Some of what you mention (e.g. “There is no denying it… no worrying that can wish it away. We have one choice: to be with it. Being angry or upset about it only makes it worse, because it increases not only our physical discomfort, but also our mental agony — which is often more intense.”) has a lot of parallels with Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and also I was thinking about how PQ crosses over with somatic tracking (part of PRT) - I thought you might be interested in doing somatic tracking-style meditations.
